History of the Grama Panchayat

Munderi Grama Panchayat is a prominent panchayat situated in the Edakkad Block of Kannur Taluk, within Kannur District. Spanning the villages of Munderi and Kanjirode, the panchayat covers an area of ​​20.42 square kilometers. Geographically, it is surrounded by several other panchayats: Kuttiattoor to the north, Kolachery to the northwest, Chelora to the west, Chembilode to the southwest, Anjarakandy to the southeast, and Koodali to the east. Munderi Panchayat holds historical significance. It was originally formed on November 17, 1955, within the Chirakkal Taluk of the erstwhile Malabar District. Subsequently, as part of the reorganization of panchayats, changes were implemented on December 20, 1961; the Kanjirode Panchayat (then in Irikkur Block) and the Munderi Panchayat (then in Edakkad Block) were merged. The present-day Munderi Grama Panchayat was formed through this merger. Its geographical expanse and administrative characteristics have contributed to the panchayat's development. Sharing borders with various other panchayats fosters active social and economic interactions. Both historical evolution and administrative reorganization have played pivotal roles in shaping Munderi into its current form.
